You’ve spent months studying, revising, and preparing for the big day. Your knowledge is sharp, and you’re ready to perform. But all that hard work can be undone in an instant if you accidentally bring a prohibited item into the examination hall.
Don’t let a simple mistake jeopardize your future! Exam centers have strict rules to ensure a fair and secure environment for everyone. To help you breeze through security and focus on your test, we’ve created the ultimate checklist of what to leave at home.
1. “No-Tech” Zone: All Electronic Devices
This is the most critical rule. The exam hall is a complete digital-free zone.
- Mobile Phones: This is the big one. Your phone is strictly banned, even if it’s switched off and buried at the bottom of your pocket.
- Watches: Leave your watch at home. This rule applies to all types, including smartwatches, digital watches, and even simple analog watches.
- Other Gadgets: This list is long and includes calculators, Bluetooth devices, earphones, pagers, cameras, pen drives, and any other memory or storage media.
2. Leave Your Study Materials Behind
Your brain is the only “note” you’re allowed to bring.
- Printed/Written Material: This includes books, notes, and any loose sheets of paper.
- A Clean Admit Card: Your e-Admit Card must be clean. Do not make any extra notes or markings on it.
3. Your Stationery Pouch Must Stay Home
This surprises many candidates, but you are not allowed to bring your own writing tools.
- Prohibited Stationery: Do not bring your own ballpoint pens, pencils, gel pens, ink pens, highlighters, or correction fluid/whiteners.
- What IS Provided? Don’t panic! The exam center will provide you with rough sheets and a ball pen to use during the test.
4. Travel Light: No Bags or Purses
Plan to carry only your essential documents (like your admit card and ID) in your hand or pocket.
- Bags and Luggage: All bags, purses, and personal luggage are banned from the hall.
- No Safekeeping: This is crucial: exam centers typically do not provide any provision for the safe-keeping of your belongings. Leave them with a friend or family member, or don’t bring them at all.
5. Jewellery and Valuables
It’s best to leave any valuable items at home. You will be advised not to wear jewellery, as there is no provision for keeping it safe if you’re asked to remove it.
6. Food and Beverages (With One Exception)
You cannot bring any food or drinks inside the hall.
- The Exception: You are allowed to bring a transparent water bottle. Make sure it has no markings, labels, or stickers on it.
7. Dress Smart for Security
Your clothing and accessories can also be an issue. Avoid any items that could obstruct or delay the security check (frisking). This includes:
- Clothing with metallic parts
- Shoes with heavy or thick soles
- Elaborate accessories
