Himachal Pradesh Rajya Chayan Ayog (HPRCA) has released the syllabus for the exam of English Teacher.The exam covers Post Graduation level English, B.Ed subjects, and General Awareness.Below is the detailed topic-wise breakdown.HPRCA English Teacher Syllabus 2026.

 

1. English (Post Graduation Level)

a) Advanced Grammar and Usage

• • Parts of Speech (Functional Use), Tense and Aspect.
  • Voice, Narration, Modals, and Subject-Verb Agreement

• Transformation of Sentences, Error Detection, and Correction

b) Vocabulary and Usage

• • Synonyms, Antonyms, One-word Substitutions, Idioms, and Phrases

• Spellings and Word Formation (Prefixes and Suffixes).

c) Linguistics

• Phonetics and Phonology (IPA Symbols), Word Stress, Sentence Stress, and Intonation Patterns.

 

• Morphology (Word Formation Processes) and Syntax (Basic Sentence Structure)[span_8](end_span).

d) History of English Literature

• • Medieval to Renaissance: Poetry/Drama before Chaucer, The Age of Chaucer, Elizabethan & Jacobean Age, University Wits, and Shakespeare.
  • 17th & 18th Century: Metaphysical Poetry, Cavalier Poets, The Age of Milton, Restoration Drama, and The Age of Pope & Dr. Johnson.

• Romantic & Victorian: Romanticism, French Revolution, Major Romantic Poets, Victorian Poetry/Novel, and The Pre-Raphaelite Movement.
• Modern Literature: Modern Poetry, War Poets, Stream of Consciousness, T.S.

e) Indian Writing in English

• • Poetry: Rabindranath Tagore, Kamala Das & Nissim Ezekiel (Themes: Identity, Nation, Confessional trends).
  • Fiction: R.K. Narayan, Mulk Raj Anand, Raja Rao, Anita Desai, Amitav Ghosh & Arundhati Roy (Focus: Social Realism, Partition, Diaspora).

• Drama: Girish Karnad & Vijay Tendulkar (Myth, History, and Social Conflict).

f) Literary Criticism (Introductory Level)

• Plato, Aristotle, Neoclassical, and Romantic Criticism.
